ok let's see how some of you think rank the coaches of Ole Miss 1. jv----190+ wins, all those bowl games and bowl wins 2.tuberville------sure he did the rebels wrong in the end but he brought the team back from all most the death pent. 3.cut------he did a great job his only down fall was not havin a back up for Eli 4. Brewer----what had ole miss done in the time between JV and brewer? not much if anything so since he put the rebels back on the map he gets a top 5 in my rankings 5.Nutt---after this coming season I'm sure he will be atleast number 2,but remember he did it with O talent 6. o----- the man can recruit got to give him that, never did get that big win unless you count that bama game the ncaa will be giving us in a few weeks 7. joe lee dunn--- give the man credit even though we did have a bad season with him what did ya think would happen he took over in late july 8.sloan 9. cooper 10. the guy who took over when jv left the 1st time can just pull them out a hat since I'm not old enough to know much about them all I know is Ole Miss went to the Peach bowl the 1st yr after Jv retired but did he win simply because of jv talent? anyway what do yall think?

1. JHV = Best Ole Miss coach and one of the best who ever lived.
2. Nutt = Look what he has done as evidenced by the expectations for this year. There has not been this kind of fervor for Ole Miss since JHV.
3. Brewer = He did bring Ole Miss back to a good level of success, but we paid a price.
4. Tuberville = He did bring a good amount of success despite the pains of probation. He left in a disgraceful manner though, so I do not have any accolades for him.
No one else stands out as a successful coach to me. O, however, proved that a good recruiter can recruit to Ole Miss, so we are going to have a lot of good years in front of us I believe because of the hard work of O. I still have a ton of respect for him and believe he will have a very successful career (possibly even as a head coach once he gets more experience in coaching under his belt).
As for Cut, he should have done wonders in recruiting with Eli on board (not just with quarterbacks either), and instead he squandered that fabulous opportunity and left us as paupers. For that alone, I will rate him the worst of all the coaches because of what could have been. It may be that illness was the reason, but I am writing this based on performance and not extenuating circumstances. In addition, his seniority system which gave no hope to underclassmen just was not the way to go versus playing the best man at each position. That hurt us a lot; kept us from attaining the best possible team under the circumstances; and ultimately resulted in a lot of surprising losses, especially during Eli's senior year IMHO.

I would agree with that assessment and add the gobsmackingly stupid decision to leave future 1st round draft choice and Pro Bowler Patrick Willis riding the pine his entire sophomore season so that a marginally talented senior could start.

now be honest did anyone on here really know that PWILLS would turn out to be like he is now? if you really did then why in the hell are you not coaching or atleast in scouting? I believe one of the first quotes I read from Ed Orgeron after his first spring practice was that Patrick Willis would have started on any of those great USC teams Orgeron came from. He obviously knew what Clueless Cutcliffe didn't. Cutcliffe's idiotic penchant to reserve playing time for less talented upperclassmen because they'd put their time in not only hurt the team on the playing field, it hurt in recruiting as well.....an area were he was abysmal enough already. He couldn't look a recruit in the eye and truthfully say, as Orgeron could and Nutt can, if you're the best at your position you'll start regardless of how long you've been around.
